10 Things to be “Thankful” for on Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

10 Things

I am writing to you from a hotel in Missouri right now.  Well, I actually wrote this post last night and scheduled it to post this morning.  So I guess I’m writing to you from the past!? I know, weird right? Anyway, I’m in MO spending time with Aaron and his family for Thanksgiving.  I’m feeling somewhat brain dead from driving 8.5 hours to MO (spending time in a car all day is so not fun!).  So I’ll focus this post on something more lighthearted and traditional towards Thanksgiving. Okay? Okay.

What comes to mind when you prepare for Thanksgiving? Well, for me I think about traditions, family, and of course food.  I also think about Black Friday, Christmas music and the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas. With the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas it’s sometimes very easy to forget and take a moment (or two) to stop and think about what we have been blessed with…what we can be thankful for!  The world sort of takes over and advertisements can make us think that we need more, more, more!  I recently heard an ad for Verizon Wireless that was all about “Thanksgetting,”getting more for your wireless plan…blah blah. Now, I understand that this is a clever play on words, but it makes it more difficult to stop and be thankful for what we have because there is always something better that we can get.

So, lets take a moment to stop thinking about what we want to get and think about what we already have to be thankful for on this day of Thanksgiving!

Here’s my list of 10 that I’m thankful for on this day of Thanksgiving (in no particular order):

  1. Aaron – aka my husband! I love him so much and am honestly so thankful every day that God put him in my life.
  2. My family – mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandmas and grandpas…there’s a lot to account for. 🙂
  3. My church and pastor – I have the opportunity to receive God’s Word and Sacrament every Sunday.
  4. Laughter – Because who doesn’t like to laugh!?
  5. A roof over my head -Our apartment is small and I sometimes catch myself wishing we had a bigger place, but I’m thankful that we have a place to live and that we can afford to pay rent.
  6. A nice neighborhood with great sidewalks to run on – I never feel like I’m in danger while running and that’s huge when you live near a big city.
  7. Health and fitness -I’m thankful that I’m healthy and have the ability to run and exercise to stay healthy.
  8. Simple comforts – Random Starbucks coffee stops, furniture in our apartment, television, etc.
  9. My job – Yes, it’s work, but I’m putting my college degree to use it pays the bills.  AND I have some really great friends at work.
  10. My car – I have a form of transportation (other than running 😉 ) to go places.

Well friends, I could list way more now that I’m thinking about what I have to be thankful for! 🙂    You should give it a try!

Questions of the Day:

What are you thankful for?  What would you add to the list?
